Take a day to explore the historic monuments of Old Delhi and the bustling Chandni Chowk Market, immersing yourself in the rich culture and history of this iconic city. In the evening, board a comfortable night bus (Volvo AC) to Manali, arriving early the next morning to begin your cycling expedition.

In Manali, you’ll fit your cycles and, if desired, set off on a village cycling tour, where you’ll experience the charming local culture and stunning Himalayan scenery. The next day, the adventure truly kicks off as we begin our cycling ascent through Pine and Deodar forests. The route will take us through hairpin bends, alongside apple orchards, and past small hamlets and mesmerizing waterfalls as we make our way to Marhi.

Our ascent continues towards the famed Rohtang Pass (3,978 meters), where we are rewarded with breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and glaciers. After crossing the pass, we descend into the Pir Panjal range, reaching Gramphu and crossing the river at Khoksar before cycling to the beautiful town of Sissu. We journey along scenic valleys and arid mountain ranges, eventually making our way to Jispa, passing through Keylong along the way. The long downhill to Jispa provides a chance to relax and take in the serenity of the region.

The next leg of the journey takes us to Zing Zing Bar and Patseo, cycling through the impressive gorges and crossing several streams. Along the way, you’ll catch glimpses of grazing yaks and llamas as we ascend towards Sarchu, a picturesque campsite surrounded by towering mountains. From Sarchu, we face the challenge of crossing the Baralacha La Pass (4,890 meters), offering wild, rugged terrain and spectacular mountain views before a thrilling downhill ride through the valley.

Continuing the journey, we tackle the famous Gata Loops with 21 zigzag turns, eventually reaching Nakeela Pass. A scenic downhill ride follows, leading to a beautiful campsite. We then make our way to Tso Kar Lake, ascending steep zigzags to the top of Lachalang La Pass (5,065 meters). A descent into Pang is followed by more switchbacks as we cross the vast Moray Plains, where nomadic Changpas herd their yaks and sheep. The landscape around Tso Kar Lake offers some of the most tranquil and picturesque scenes of the tour.

As our adventure nears its climax, we face the final challenge of ascending to Tanglang La Pass (5,328 meters), the world’s second-highest motorable pass. The exhilarating descent through switchbacks takes us to Rumptse Village and later to the stunning village of Lato, nestled under immense rock faces. We then cycle uphill towards Upshi, passing through scenic river valleys, fertile villages, and stunning red-hued mountains. Crossing the Indus River, we continue along the way, passing Thiksey Monastery and the Chortens Garden before reaching the final destination: Leh.

We have just completed the Manali to Leh highway. Approximately 500km, 5 Himalayan passes (3 over 5000m) It was without doubt the best cycling trip we have ever done What became abundantly clear was that without expert support from the Offbeat team we probably wouldn’t of completed it in such good condition Make no mistake cycling the manali to Leh road is challenging, choose the wrong team and you could be in trouble, there are many operators offering this trip but few I would say are as capable as offbeat adventures we can’t recommend them highly enough
